Initially it received only incidental publicity. But When the “Reverend” Harold Camping predicted the May 22, 2011, end times and Rapture, well… all hell broke loose. Every major print and broadcast and Internet news outlet was emailing and calling for interviews. I was giving radio and newspaper interviews around the clock ten days or so prior to May 22. I had to keep a schedule to handle the calls that included papers in Russia, South Africa, New Zealand, Canada, Scandinavia, South America, and Australia. New Hampshire’s National Public Radio station came to my home to interview me, and the L.A. Times send out a photographer to take pictures of myself and my dog for their article. I never broke character. The publicity launched my book into Amazon’s top ten best sellers in the atheist genre for about six weeks, alongside Hitchens’ and Dawkins’ books.

The hardest part of it was having to keep the hoax from my online friends, my readers, and atheist group compatriots. Only one Internet personality knew that this was a hoax.
